10 Reasons to Start a Real Estate Blog

Following on from our 10 Reasons to Try Out Twitter, today we’ve got 10 more reasons why real estate agents need to look into starting up their own blogs. If you’re not sure if blogging is for you, or are trying to convince someone in your office of the value of blogging, consider the following:

1. Blogging will boost your SEO. Whenever someone links to one of your posts, search engines see your blog as that much more authoritative and rank it higher in their results.
2. You can target long tail keywords with each post. Click here for an example of how one agent did this with a post containing information about her local school.
3. Your blog positions you as a local expert as you cover everything from local events to your town’s best restaurants and businesses in your posts.
4. Each post is a chance to attract a new client. The trick is to imagine what that client might be searching for online and tweak your posts accordingly. For a great example of how one US agent did this, click here.
5. Blogs make room for a conversation between real estate agents and buyers/sellers, allowing for a much higher level of engagement than your average email newsletter.
6. Blogging doesn’t have to be difficult. In fact, it can be as easy as sending an email if you use a tool like Posterous to publish your content.
7. Your posts don’t have to be long. Even a photo from your latest listing with a short description of what makes the house special counts as a blog post.
8. Each post can be distributed via other social channels like Facebook and Twitter, which means your reach isn’t just limited to your blog’s subscribers.
9. Blogs increase your visibility throughout your industry, as Technorati’s recent survey of bloggers worldwide revealed.
10. Your blog is a great place to highlight your successes. By blogging about what you’ve achieved recently, you give potential clients a clear idea of why they should work with you.
