Agent Strategies: Real Estate Blogging that Works

Today’s Agent Strategy comes from Heather Elias, the US real estate agent behind the impressive blog We’ve previously highlighted as an example of a great local real estate blog, and here we ask Heather how the blog works to bring in business:

What do you find to be the most effective way to generate real estate business online?

Blogging, both to establish myself as a local market expert but also as an unofficial ambassador to my local area. It’s important to offer my readership information that they find useful, both about real estate and about the area we live in. I’m a combination of a local beat reporter (for lots of local things that don’t otherwise get reported on) and tour guide.

How has your blogging helped your real estate business?

My blog drives about 75 percent of my business; it’s a way for people to find me, get to know me, learn about how I do business, and easily see how I’m plugged into the real estate market and the local community. Even people that are given my name as a personal referral have a chance to ‘check up on me’ before they reach out to me for the first meeting.

What advice would you give real estate agents who are just starting to look at marketing their business online?

Find what you are passionate about within your market, and figure out what communication tools work best for you to reach your local consumers. Use the tools that you are most comfortable with, whether that’s blogging, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, photo blogging - if you don’t enjoy it, you won’t engage your readership/community and establish a rapport. That connection is what allows you to nurture a relationship, which in turn will lead to business.
