LinkedIn the Favourite: CAR Survey

The California Association of Realtors has released the results of its annual Use of Technology Survey, revealing LinkedIn, YouTube and MySpace as the three most popular social networking websites for Realtors.

LinkedIn came out as the top social network with 34 percent of the vote, while YouTube took 13 percent and MySpace 12 percent.

The survey shows personal websites are receiving a good deal of attention, with most respondents including a “contact me” option (85 percent) or phone number/text feature (84 percent). 78 percent include an IDX feed to display listings, 54 percent include features such as virtual tours, 53 percent link to individual listings and 49 percent display “reasons to use me” information on their website.

55 percent of those surveyed said they are “always connected” to the Internet for their real estate business, and 45 percent use a laptop or tablet computer in the field, up from 33 percent a year ago.

In terms of where Realtors promote their listings, the survey showed 51 percent use Yahoo! Real Estate, 37 percent use newspaper websites, 29 percent go to and 26 percent choose Craigslist. Yahoo! Real Estate, and Craigslist also saw more Realtors come to their websites looking for information about real estate this year.

Finally, the CAR survey showed an increase in the amount of business originating online. Five years ago the figure was just 24 percent. It increased to 48 percent in 2008, and reached 55 percent this year.
