Website Spotlight: blogbythebay.com

blogbythebay.com has just been nominated for one of inman.com’s 2010 Innovator Awards, so we wanted to check out what makes this blog so special.

After a few minutes spent scrolling through the latest posts, the reason for the nomination is clear – blogbythebay.com is ticking all the boxes for a top-notch real estate blog.

The blog focuses on Marin County in the North San Francisco Bay area. Among the recent posts, you can find information on an upcoming music festival, a hip new dining spot, regional real estate inventory for the county, a nearby hiking trail, and Fannie Mae’s new loan quality initiative.

Like movenorthshore.co.nz over in New Zealand, blogbythebay.com is a great example of a real estate blog with balance. Mixing market information with features about the local area is an easy way to cater to a wide audience – from home hunters who are ready to sign on the dotted line to those still “just looking.”

The connected agency website – sfnorth.com – also has plenty more good ideas for real estate websites. While this particular agency has clearly worked with a designer to create their slick look, the basic principles aren’t difficult to follow:

- keep the emphasis on the local area, rather than the agency itself

- make sure the website is full of enticing photos

- tell people exactly what you can do for them

- keep your website copy friendly and simple
