UK Agents Plan to Move Online

It seems the UK’s financial downturn has some real estate agents reassessing their spending priorities. A survey by property specialists movewithus found that at least 20 percent see a move from their high street premises to a home office as possible or likely over the next ten years.

66 percent of the agents surveyed said they would be likely to focus on their web offering over the next decade, with a further 28 percent seeing it as a possibility. If you’re also considering this move, but aren’t sure where to start, be sure to check out our guest post from Ryan Hinricher: “4 Essential Building Blocks for Agents New to Online”.

Renter Review Website Launches

A new website has been launched in the UK to give renters the ability to publish reviews on properties, landlords, estate agents, and the local area.

The propertyreview.com allows users to upload their reviews for free and provides a search option so users can find reviews by location. At the moment, there are around 30 reviews available, and while there are some with a rating of 100 percent that sound slightly like listings, many seem to be genuine impressions of properties, landlords, and agents.

New Listing Tool for UK Agents

A new tool has recently been launched to help UK agents upload their listings to multiple property portals.

XML2U promises to take the hassle out of listing properties through the use of “Google-like technology”. First, XML2U visits the agent’s website, collects the details of their properties, and present them in a data file. Then, a link to the file can be given to any portal the agent chooses so their properties can automatically be uploaded.

estatecreate.com Focuses on SEO

UK single property website service estatecreate.com wants to help agents with their search engine optimisation (SEO).

As we explained in our Top 10 Tips for SEO, the number of relevant inbound links to your website can have a big effect on where it’s placed in search engine rankings. estatecreate.com is now encouraging its users to focus on this, and suggests agents set up individual websites for each key road where they sell houses.

New Widget from findaproperty.com

UK property portal findaproperty.com, which has just come out with an iPhone application, has also released a widget showing UK average house prices that can be added to any website.

The widget displays asking price data for both flats and houses in any UK town or county for either sales or rentals. findaproperty.com explains that it shows asking price changes for the last 90 days in both graph and tabular formats.

estatecreate.com Builds for Agents

We first reported on UK-based single property website creation tool estatecreate.com when it launched in February last year. At the time, it was pitched as a challenge to agents in that it offered an alternative selling tool for home owners.

After launching, estatecreate.com decided to include an agent-focused option in its subscription offerings, allowing agents to create single property websites to promote their clients properties.

Since then, it seems agents have been clamouring for an option that doesn’t involve them creating the websites on their own.

The results of a survey from home.co.uk, a UK-based property search engine, show some interesting trends in the listing habits of UK agencies.

home.co.uk surveyed 14,660 agencies to come up with the results, which show 93 percent of respondents list their properties on at least one portal. However, just over 20 percent of respondents were found to advertise on only one portal. Which was the most popular portal? You guessed it: rightmove.co.uk.

Trouble at propertyindex.com

Darren Richards

“I would suggest that any agent who has credited their propertyindex.com account gives serious consideration to getting their money back and/or closing their account before they are unable to do so.” That’s the information propertyportalwatch.com received from a former propertyindex.com employee, who asked to remain anonymous, late last night.
