Real estate agents hear almost daily about how blogging can help their business, but what about the other side of the equation - commenting on other blogs? It’s our contention that comments can actually generate leads for agents, provided they are well written and strategically placed.
Needless to say, simply writing “nice post” on a few industry blogs each week won’t be enough, even if the backlinks you create do give your SEO a tiny push. What you’ll need to do instead is spend some time thinking of a comment that will really add to the conversation and stick in readers’ minds.
When you’re writing your comment, don’t forget to include your website’s address and your contact email so people can get in touch with you in a few clicks. Miss this step and you’ll have almost no chance of generating the leads you want.
But even the most well-written comment will sink without a trace if it’s appearing on the wrong blog. To find the right place to post your comments, you’ll need to answer these questions:
- What kind of buyers and/or sellers do you want to work with?
- What are their biggest concerns when it comes to real estate?
- Where are they trying to find the answers to their real estate questions online?
If you’re stumped, try putting yourself in your ideal client’s shoes and plugging their questions into a search engine. Which websites come up? Can you add a comment to any of these websites? If so, jump in and make your voice heard, and check back later to see whether anyone has asked any follow-up questions. Even better, subscribe to the website’s RSS feed so you can keep track of other opportunities to comment at a glance.
