Now that we’ve covered how to put together great video listings and fix common video problems, it’s time to look at exactly how to get your real estate videos seen on one of the world’s largest search engines: YouTube.
Uploading videos to YouTube is a relatively simple process, but there are a few extra steps you can take to give your videos the best possible chance of being seen. Here are our five top tips for YouTube SEO:
1. Use the right keywords in your title. Put yourself in the shoes of the a house hunter scouring YouTube - what would you type in? Title your video “Melbourne real estate” and you’ll not only get lost amongst hundreds of similar results, you won’t be targeting home hunters who really know what they’re looking for. Instead, try “[suburb name] home for sale,” to put your video in front of the exact buyers you’re looking for.
2. Don’t skimp on the description. Here’s another chance to zero in on those keywords you’re targeting. Let’s say you’re featuring a video tour of a home in Ann Arbor. Your description might begin: “This Ann Arbor home for sale boasts four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a spacious kitchen.” From there, go on to list as much detail as possible about the address, the community, and any other features you want to highlight, keeping the keywords people will be using to search in mind at all times.
3. Link to other websites. Just as with SEO for websites, links are vital to video SEO. So, along with linking to the video from your own blog and /or Facebook page, promote your video to any other website you think might be interested, and get those links pointing back to your video.
4. Use those tags. After putting in all this effort, it would be a shame not to take a few seconds to repeat the keywords you’re targeting in YouTube’s tags field. Don’t forget common variations on the words you’re using - “Manchester houses for sale” as well as “Manchester homes for sale,” for example.
5. Make your video a “how-to”. reelseo.com’s tips from a previous conference on YouTube SEO include an interesting note: how-to videos are some of the most effective when it comes to SEO. So, if you don’t have a listing to share but still want to get your name out there, think about doing a short how-to series for first time home buyers, people looking to make the most from their home sale, or some other topic that speaks to your target market.
Above all, remember that not all that many real estate agents are making use of YouTube to showcase their properties at this stage. By mastering YouTube listings now, you’ll put yourself well ahead in the online marketing game.

Thanks, great article. I have been putting the property address as the title- makes more sense to do suburb for sale etc!
Good to hear Rachael! Let us know what effect that changes has on your view count.
I’m hearing more and more every week about video for SEO and this article is really helpful for when I (eventually) start doing vidoes to support my site. Thanks!
