US real estate marketplace zillow.com has released their first official plugin for WordPress websites - one it says will help property seekers answer the question, “Where should I live?”
The Local Market Explorer plugin, which is available for free to people who have built their websites using WordPress, takes data from zillow.com, education.com, flickr.com, walkscore.com and yelp.com to present information specific to a certain city.
Through the plugin, zillow.com’s recent market activity and statistics can be displayed along with an “about” section with flickr.com photos, schools data from education.com, walkscore.com’s “walkability” information, and local area reviews from yelp.com. geekestateblog.com has an example of how the information appears.
A post on the zillow.com blog explains the overall aim of the plugin:
“While the most important feature of any agent or brokerage website is a robust search interface to find homes for sale, one of the questions home buyers — particularly those relocating — are trying to answer prior to looking at listings is ‘where should I live?’
Home buyers spend an immense amount of time researching areas they are interested in living to get a better feel for the area. So, as an agent or broker, having that local information on your own website is a huge benefit to being a complete real estate resource for your clients throughout the buying process.”
While not all of the websites used by the plugin will contain comprehensive information for all cities, zillow.com states that most cities will be “sufficiently covered”.
Users can choose not to include the information from yelp.com and walkscore.com and to leave out zillow.com’s market activity section and the “about” section if they wish. zillow.com says that more flexibility will be added in future, and while the plugin does not yet support neighbourhoods or zip codes, this will be included in the next version.
