A new property industry body has just launched in the UK bringing together the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP) and the Council of Property Search Organisations (CoPSO).

The newly formed Federation of Property Information Providers (FPIP) will allow both the AHIPP and CoPSO to retain their management structures and independence, but will also aim to provide a unified voice with which to lobby government. The Federation will also offer legal advice, PR and lobbying to its member organisations, and work with the Property Codes Compliance Board.

A statement on behalf of FPIP quotes its first executive director, Mike Ockenden, as saying:

“The creation of this new, influential representative body recognises the increasing importance of property information provision to consumers. Working together, we can ensure that home buyers and sellers have access to the highest quality property information, backed up by the guarantee of the Search and HIP Codes. At the same time, the Federation will strengthen the individual organisations in their ability to drive forward reform.”

Chairman of the Property Codes Compliance Board, Richard Foottit, adds:

“Most consumers find buying or selling a house a difficult and stressful process, so any development that genuinely enhances the consumer experience has to be good news. We welcome this move to develop a seamless relationship between information providers and believe it will help to drive up standard and root out bad practice.”
