The US National Association of Realtors (NAR) has announced it will be awarding $37,000 in grants to nine local and state NAR member associations.
The Diversity Initiative Grant Program awards up to $5000 to NAR member organisations to fund activities that promote members as “leaders in our country’s increasingly diverse communities and that extend the benefits of homeownership to more Americans”.
In a statement from the association, NAR President Charles McMillan said of the grants:
“NAR remains committed to furthering and sustaining minority homeownership as well as bringing more diversity into the real estate business and the leadership of the Realtor® community, and these grants help further that commitment.”
Second round applications are due on 2nd October, 2009. Previous grants have been used to highlight the variety of minority real estate organisations, to increase the representation of Arab-Americans in the NAR, and to create an Equal Opportunity-Cultural Diversity committee.
The NAR’s official website is realtor.com, which has held the top position in the Hitwise rankings of US real estate websites for many months. The association states that it is America’s largest trade organisation, with 1.3 million members.
